A call to Fasting and Prayer
Tennessee governor Bill Lee signed House Joint Resolution (HJR) 803 into law on April 16.
State senator Mark Pody and House representative Monty Fritts signed a joint letter May 29 encouraging Tennesseans to “join in a 30-day season of prayer and intermittent fasting for the month of July as a means of humbling ourselves to receive God’s grace, mercy and blessing in Tennessee and our nation.”
The letter noted that “this document embodies a bipartisan recognition that the issues we are facing cannot be effectively addressed without the intervention and favor of our Lord.”
A Prayer of Repentance
Our Father who art in heaven, Examine me and lead me to repentance. I acknowledge I have not followed Your ways but my own. Your ways are right and pure. Lord forgive me for placing more importance on the things of this world rather than on You and Your ways. I come before You now to repent of all my sins. There are so many that I cannot count them. I hand over to You my heart infected with the evils of pride, envy, covetousness, deceit, strife, gossip, gluttony, vanity, lust, malice, slander, and unforgiveness. Free me from my sin that has enslaved me. Lord help me to live out the life You planned for me to be a reflection of Jesus to those around me. Please draw nigh to me. Cleanse my hands and purify my heart. Lord I ask You to hear from heaven and heal not only me but I intercede for the people of my State. Place Your hand of protection and blessing over us. Help us to tear down the high places we have built. I ask You to be our God, the one true and living Almighty God. In the name of Jesus, my Savior, I ask all of this.
